beginning knitting

Tuesday 6:30pm - 8:30pm / January 10, 17, 24, 31

Learn to knit! This class is designed for students who have never knitted. Students will learn about the varying weights of yarns, fibers, needles and knitting tools. We will then learn to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, increase, decrease and, most importantly, how to fix mistakes! With all this knowledge, students will knit a hat!

*Materials: Worsted weight yarn, #7 or 8 circular (16") and dpns, stitch markers and darning needle.

cuff to toe socks

2 Sessions / $20

Saturday 2pm - 4pm / January 14, 21

Learn how great handknit socks can feel! Learn tips and tricks that will make your socks durable, beautiful and the envy of everyone. You will soon be taking orders for them!

*Materials: pattern, 100 grams of socks weight yarn, #1 dpns and basic knitting tools

advanced beginning knitting

4 Sessions / $40   

Thursday 6pm -8pm / January 19 and February 2, 16 and March 1

For students who have completed Beginning Knitting or know the basics and want to advance their skills. Casting on, increasing, decreasing, short rows, kitchener stitch (grafting), knitting with 2 colors in one row and binding offf. Reading a pattern and importance of gauge will be discussed.

*Materials: "Drive-Thru" pattern by Wendy Bernard, worsted weight wool, appropriately sized needles and basic knitting tools.

spinning

1 Session / $10 *Includes materials  

Saturday 10am - 12pm / January 14

Try your hand (and feet) at spinning! We will have a wheel for you to learn the basics of turning wool roving into knitable yarn! This just might be your newest obsession!

 

little red in the city workshop - cria

5 Sessions / $50

The much anticipated book is finally here! Anneliese has developed a spectacular workshop to help you get from the "designing" stage of your sweater to the "wearing" stage. Class time will be spend on properly measuring yourself, choosing the correct yarn and needles, swatching, calculations and knitting your drem sweater. Participants will be knitting an amazingly fantastic fitting "Cria". Students must be comfortable increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches and working on double pointed needles.

*Materials: "Little Red in the City" by Ysolda Teague, sweater yarn, appropriate needles, pencil and knitting tools.

*Please print the "Cria" pattern pdf and measurement chart that comes with your book and bring to class.

afghan knit-along

Join us as we work our way through Barbara Walker's Learn to Knit book. It's a terrific chance to learn some new skills, polish up the old and work on a fantastic afghan in the process. ishbel

Ishbel is a fantastic yarn little shawl that is lends itself to a great way to learn lace or just a wonderfully cozy bit around your neck! We will learn how to knit from a chart and written pattern! It's the perfect little knit and may entice you into more lace knitting!

*Materials:330 yards of fingering weight yarn, #6 circular needle - 24 or 32", stitch markers and basic knitting tools.

**The "Ishbel" pattern will be sent to your email or Raverly account. Please print a copy and bring it to class.

crochet brioche

1 Session / $10

Saturday 10am -12pm / January 7

Brioche has been a fantastic new technique that our knitters have enjoyed learning. Anneliese figured it was about time that the crocheters joined in all the fun too! She will be teaching this interesting way to work 2 colors into your crochet and create a positive/negative image. Once you have gotten the technique down, she will help you get started with this fantastic cowl!

*Materials: 2 colors of contrasting worsted weight yarn (we used Malabrigo Rios), size J hook and basic crocheting tools.

steeks

1 Session / $10   

Saturday 12pm -2pm / January 21 

We're cutting our knitting up in this class...on purpose! A steek is an extra group of stitches in an area where the knitter would like an opening. Think pullover turned cardigan? Knit a blanket in the round and never have to purl! This class will show the many uses of steeks, how to work one, prepare them to be cut andfinish them! We'll learn machine and crocheted steeks.

*Materials: Jamieson's Heather, crochet hook, scissors, #6 dpns and basic knitting tools.

fixing mistakes

1 Session / $10   

Wednesday 6pm - 8pm / January 11 

Saturday afternoon rolls around and you settle down to knit. A stitch drops off your needle... the whole thing looks wrong...you can't get it back on the needle...the yarn shop doesn't open again until Tuesday... Learn to fix those mistakes yourself and be the master of your own knitting! This class will discuss how to pick up those stitches, how to successfully rip your knitting back and return it to your needles correctly, how to figure out where you are in your pattern and how to stay away from common mistakes...plus much more! Bring your questions and take charge of your knitting!

*Materials: bring problems to fix, and a 20 stitch x 4 inch swatch in stockinette stitch swatch (please bind off), waste yarn, crochet hook, darning needle, and basic knitting tools.

tess socks

"Tess" may just look like another pair of slippers, but these are so much more! This small project provides for a litany of new skills including knitting with 2 colors, steeks and applied i-cord. So beautiful for your feet, after you master all of these skills you will want to make more!

*Materials: "Tess" pattern (will be emailed to you through Ravelry with a class discount!), Shibui (50 grams in 2 contrasting colors), #2 dpns (or size needed to achieve gauge) and basic knitting tools.

toe up socks

2 Sessions / $20   

Tuesday 6pm - 8pm / February 7, 21

Have you wanted to learn but are a little apprehensive? Come and learn the easy way! We will learn how to knit socks from the toe up. They are a great project to take along to a sporting event, the doctor's office or just stash in your bag for who knows when! They are fun to wear and can be great gifts. You will be quick to join the ranks of enthusiastic sock knitters.

*Materials: 100 grams of sock yarn, #1 dpns and basic knitting tools.

intro to crochet

2 Sessions / $20   

Saturday 2pm - 4pm / February 11, 25

All you need is one hook for crochet and Oh, The thing you can do! This class will teach the basics of crochet while you try your hand at fun granny squares. Learn all the basics and you will be a crochet pro!dd some warmth to the everyday mitten!

*Materials: "G" hook, smooth wool in worsted weight and basic crochet tools.

moccasin socks

2 Sessions / $20

Right about this time of the year, we are all wishing we had a pair of these! These tremendously warm socks are perfect for all those loved ones that are a little tougher on their hand knitted socks than we would like. Starting at the cuff, the socks are knit down and then, in a special manner, are knit so that the entire bottom can be removed and replaced when they have been loved too much. After working up a pair, try one in fingering weight. This fun project put a fantastic spin on sock knitting!

*Materials: Worsted weight yarn (2-100 grams skeins in contrasting colors), approriately sized dp needles and same size 16" circular needle, Knitting Around by Elizabeth Zimmermann and basic knitting tools.

february baby sweater

This great sweater is perfect for all those bouncing babies in your life! This fun knit begins at the neck and works down with few or no seams. The beautiful lace pattern is perfect for the little girls and a plain bodice is great for those little guys!
